Delaware Ridge Elementary PTO: Back To School

The school buzz has begun and the anticipation of the new school year is in the air. Are you ready? PTO is gearing up and would love your help and participation. We have a great year planned, filled with fun events for our DRE students.

We encourage all DRE parents and family members to get involved and stay informed by joining us at our monthly meetings, online at www.dretpto.com or on Facebook. Your input and ideas are greatly encouraged and needed.

Teacher Wishlists

Here's an idea... If you are heading to Walmart, why not pick up a little something for a DRE classroom. Several of our teachers have posted wish lists on www.teacherwishlist.com. They are requesting small items that would be put to good use. Many items you may already have around the house.

How it works:

1. Simply click the link www.teacherwishlist.com
2. Enter DRE's zip code: 66109
3. Find our school and select a teacher's name
4. Print out a list (or two) and take it with you
5. Pick the items you can help with
6. Drop off or send them to school with your child

Don't see your teacher's name? Just email Janet Crouch at alivias_mom@hotmail.com. PTO will get the message to them that their parents are eager to help and encourage them to post their wishes.

FREE Supply Cabinet

Donate used supplies
RECYCLE • RENEW • REPURPOSE

At the end of the school year, most students bring home miscellaneous school supplies, such as leftover crayons, partially used spiral notebooks, eraser-less pencils, etc. Instead of throwing those items in a drawer or in the trash, DRE PTO is asking you donate them to school. We are creating a Free Supply Cabinet to re-purpose otherwise discarded (non-perishable) school supplies.

Items would be available to all students free of charge throughout the school year, on an as need basis.

Here how it works.

Look for the plastic tubs the front entrance of school. Just drop off supplies anytime or send them with your student.

PTO is always looking for ways to save DRE parents money and stay “green”. This is a simple way we all can help recycle, renew and re-purpose.

ACTION POINTS

● Praise your child's qualities in front of others -- his/her peers, other adults, and other family members.

● Talk through goals and aspirations your child may have for the coming months. Coach him/her to keep them realistic, but also pledge your support to help her accomplish those things and more.

● Pay close attention to everyday comments you make to your children. Instead of focusing on what you don't want them to do, make positive statements about what you do want to see from them.

● Show lavish amounts of affection for your child every day. Let him know through words and actions that you are rooting for him/her to reach for the stars.

● Express your love for your children in words. Tell them, "No matter what you do, you're special to me. You don't have to earn my love."
